Emeline Bacot, a dietitian and nutritionist, provides her advice for having a good breakfast before going back to school.
The stress of going back to school can be felt the day before. New classmates, new teachers, and new programs can make you feel anxious. Having energy to face the day starts with getting a good night’s sleep. But nutrition is also crucial. To stay in shape, it is important to not eat just anything. With the help of Emeline Bacot’s advice, a dietitian and nutritionist, Figaro Étudiant explains what to eat to succeed in going back to school.
Steer Clear of Excessively Sweet Foods

The goal of breakfast is to provide the necessary energy to sustain you throughout the morning. However, not all foods are created equal in this regard. Many people tend to choose overly sugary products, which can lead to a quick spike in blood sugar followed by a crash and fatigue around 10 am. It is better to opt for minimally processed foods that digest more slowly. For cereals, it is recommended to choose muesli or plain oat flakes and avoid pre-packaged cereals. Whole grain bread is also preferable over white bread, as it contains more fiber that slows down digestion and provides more sustained energy. While fruits are highly recommended for breakfast, it is better to eat them rather than drink them as juicing removes most of the fiber and can also degrade their sensitive vitamins. Adding a source of protein, such as eggs or nuts, to your breakfast can help you stay full until lunchtime. Hydration is also crucial for maintaining focus, as our brain is composed of 85% water.
